China's Control of Media Entities Abroad

OVERVIEW

CCTV, China's government-run television station, owns and controls as many of 75% of the leading Chinese-language television stations in the United States and Canada. A significant number of leading Chinese-language print media in the U.S. are owned and run by companies with ties to Xinhua News and China.

The news and information is targeted to the more than 50 million Chinese living outside of China. As well anti-American coverage is frequent and this take-over has gone largely unnoticed by Western media and governments.
