concerned about the condition of Mr. Xu Song. I understand
that he has faced severe torture and persecution, simply for
his practice of Falun Gong. I understand that he has initiated
a hunger strike to protest the abuses against him and that he
has faced further persecution in the form of forced feeding.
I am very concerned about the condition of Mr. Xu Song, who I
now understand is in a life and death situation. I ask that
the persecution against Mr. Xu Song be stopped immediately and
that he be released, so that he may practice his beliefs in
peace, in accordance with rights guaranteed by the Chinese
Constitution and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, to
which China is signatory.
The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China is
unacceptable to the international community. We strongly
support the rights of Falun Gong practitioners to practice
their beliefs free from persecution.
