[ More Reports ]Many detention centers and labor camps in China force feed Falun Gong practitioners. More often used as a torture technique than a way of forcing nutrients into the detainee, the force feeding procedure is often carried out by untrained police or common prisoners. During the procedure, the detainee's mouth is pried open using metal plyers or a crow bar, often tearing the lips and mouth and breaking teeth. A tube is then stuffed into the mouth and down the throat, or if the detainee's mouth cannot be pried open, the tube is stuffed into the nose and down the throat. Once the tube is inserted into the stomach, a concentrated corm-meal solution or highly concentrated salt-water solution is pumped into the detainee. Many reports indicate that alternative substances, such as dirty water or sewage is also pumped into the stomach of the detainee to intensify the torture. Dozens of Falun Gong practitioners have died from this procedure.
Testimonies from Victims
"They dragged me by my hair and slammed my head against the ground. Then they violently kicked my head and chest. I lost consciousness. When I came to, I had a headache and realized my clothing had been stripped from my body. To protest this treatment, I began a hunger strike. Five days later, I was force fed. They forced a thick and hard plastic tube into my stomach through my nose. It was excruciatingly painful, especially to my nose and throat. Force-feeding by violently stuffing tubes through the nose and down the throat is a common practice in Chinese detention centers. Very often, it's not food that's forced through the tube, but a highly concentrated salt-water solution that is extremely painful when ingested. Even more appalling is that human feces and urine are sometimes 'fed' to the hunger-striking practitioners. The procedure is usually carried out by untrained guards or sometimes even criminal inmates."-- Ms. Amy Lee, a New York resident and Falun Gong practitioner who suffered force-feeding torture while held at a detention center in Beijing in 1999
"After the ninth day, they started to force-feed me. Before my first time, I saw a female Falun Gong practitioner named Shang...they grabbed her hair and knocked her head against the wall and against the floor. When she became unconscious, they forced the tube into her nose to force-feed her. They did not bother with any sterilization, and simply brushed the tube a little bit in a basin then forced it through her nose to her stomach, then they injected ground corn grain mixed with cold water. After finishing with her, the two prison doctors turned around and looked at me saying, with forceps and tools in their hands, 'You saw that?'"-- Ms. Yuzhi Wang, a Chinese business woman and Falun Gong practitioner who was imprisoned in the Wanjia Labor Camp for one year
